POSITIVE INFLUENCE OF FAMILY CONTINUES IN COLLEGE YEARS

Trevor Beltz' 08 and Morgan Beltz '10 used to walk the halls of Wilson together, now they support each other as college students at Claremont McKenna College.

Trevor is a junior and is majoring in Government and Economics. He has lettered in football all three years, playing in every one of his college games.  Trevor returns home every summer to coach for his old high school football team and to manage the weight room at Wilson, after putting in a long day working in Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard's office. Click here to learn more about Trevor.

Morgan is a freshman and is majoring in Management and Engineering. She was picked to start her first college game on the Varsity Softball team on February 5, 2011 as catcher. Morgan had no errors, went 2 for 4 at the plate, and scored twice as Claremont defeated Chapman University 15-7. Prior to college and for the last two summers Morgan has worked as a paid intern for the Portland Business Alliance, doing staff work part of the week and work as a sidewalk ambassador - downtown guide for their Clean and Safe District program the rest of the week. Click here to learn more about Morgan.

Their parents, Ron Beltz and Jan Turner credit Wilson with providing challening programs and supportive teachers to prepare Morgan and Trevor for the rigors of college and to dream big. Ron believes that, "Morgan and Trevor were both strongly supported and encouraged by Principal Sue Brent and Vice Principal Marshall Haskins along with Wilson Athletic Director Scott Aker and their coaches." The entire family felt at home at Wilson and are continuing to have fun at Claremont McKenna College. Click here for a family photo at college.

This fall Morgan worked for the football team at Claremont McKenna College as an equipment manager and photographer while Trevor helped lead his football team to their second best record of 7-2. "It was great to see them on the field together at games and practices," adds Ron. With the football season over, Trevor now starts his third spring working for the college softball team doing set up for games, some announcing and playing all the walk off music as DJ for the batters and between innings. He is there supporting his sister, Morgan, as she plays her first softball season on the varsity team.  Click here for a photo of Trevor and Morgan at college after a football game.

Last spring the entire family traveled with the Claremont McKenna football team on a cultural exchange program to Uruguay and Argentina. For several weeks the team played football games and conducted clinics with the local club teams there. The family took several side trips, along with visiting the ambassador and the American Embassy. Click here for two photos of the family in Argentina:  photo 1, photo 2.  Click here to read about their football game in Argentina. Click here to see photos of their game in Uruguay from the American Embassy (Trevor can be seen carrying the football and is in the #44 jersey).

There is no doubt that Morgan and Trevor add intellect and talent to Claremont McKenna College and have clearly learned the importance of hard work and perseverance. Congratulations to Morgan and Trevor and to their parents, Jan and Ron!
