SCHOOL NEWS

CLASS OF 1975 GIVES BACK TO WILSON
In December 2015 just before winter break, several members of the Class of '75 visited their alma mater. They came bearing a gift, a very special gift for their old high school. The Class of '75 donated $2898.86 to Wilson High School and presented the check to Jeremy Shetler '92 (and the current Dean of Students at Wilson). This very special gift came from a combination of donations from the class, excess money they had from previous reunions, and a refund on services from their recently held 40th reunion. Well done, Class of '75!

The second Makrokosmos Project Music Festival on June 23, 2016 at Blue Sky Gallery in the Pearl in SW Portland celebrates contemporary American music and Pacific Northwest musicians. This year's event includes among others our very own pianist Stephanie Ho '95 and mezzo soprano Angela Niederloh '95. The festival is organized by pianists Stephanie Ho and Saar Ahuvia who collaborate as DUO Stephanie and Saar in performances noted for their artistic versatility, elegance and intellectual curiosity. "I am very excited about the musical festival," says Ho. "I am especially excited about the 7:15pm set that I will perform with mezzo soprano Angela Niederloh. As Wilson alumni, we are very excited to have an artistic 'reunion" after all these years!" Niederloh and Ho will also be previewing some of the music for the upcoming musical festival on All Classical Portland's "Thursdays @ Three" on June 16, broadcast live at http://www.allclassical.org/programs/thursdays-at-three/.

AS SOMEONE WHO WAS RATHER QUIET IN HIGH SCHOOL

... photo courtesy of Say It Better
Kare (Karen) Anderson '69 is an Emmy-winning former NBC and Wall Street Journal reporter, now connective behavior speaker and columnist for Forbes and Huffington Post. She speaks and writes on ways to be more deeply connected and widely quoted. Kare says, "it has amused several of my peers at Woodrow Wilson High School that I became a public speaker (after being a journalist). To the surprise of many, including me, my TED talk last Fall, on The Web of Humanity: Becoming an Opportunity Maker has attracted over 1.8 million views — and thus several new adventures into my life: http://www.ted.com/talks/kare_anderson_be_an_opportunity_maker?language=en#. It is around my core mission — encouraging people to redefine their lives around a mutuality mindset. See a book I wrote on the topic: http://www.sayitbetter.com/book/"~ warmly Kare (Karen Anderson '69)
