1975 GRAD PUBLISHES ANOTHER BOOK

KC Cowan ’75, aka: Karen Micallef, has written another regency romance novel - a sequel to Pride & Prejudice.  The Bennets: Providence & Perception came out this spring 2023. Her book is available now at Meryton Press and Amazon.com.

KC is proud to say The Bennets: Providence & Perception won a 1st place ribbon in the Chanticleer International Book Awards Romance category in May 2023.   She is also a Co-Author of fantasy novels: Journey to Wizards’ KeepThe Hunt for Winter; and Everfire.   You can reach KC Cowan on twitter.com @KCcowanartgal.

Here is a blurb about The Bennets: Providence & Perception:
Poor Mary Bennet—the classic middle-child—ignored and neglected by her parents and sisters. No one expects anything remarkable from her. But after her mother dies in an accident, and Mr. Yarby, a handsome new rector arrives at Longbourn, Mary decides to take steps to secure her own happiness.  There’s just two complications—her father has fallen in love with Amelia, the widowed older sister of Mr. Yarby — while still in mourning for his late wife. And Mr. Collins - the heir to Longbourn, learns of the romance. Fearful of losing his inheritance if Mr. Bennet remarries and produces a son, Mr Collins plots to get rid of Mr. Yarby and his sister. Mary is unaware of the scheme and believes her plan to win Mr. Yarby’s love is working, until an overheard conversation between Mr. Yarby and Amelia threatens to destroy Mary’s new-found confidence.

CURRENT SCHOOL NEWS

SCOTT GUTHRIE RETIRES

Science Teacher, Scott Guthrie is both retiring and is a recipient of a 2023 Guardian Award.
In honor of Scott and his father, Curtis Guthrie, who together have taught for over 60 years at Wilson/Ida B Wells High School and have been true Guardians of our building, our mascot has been given the last name of Guthrie. He is now Gary Guthrie, the Guardian. "Scott has given so much to IBW science over his years of service. He has taught virtually every course in the department, but has a particular talent for engaging a wide range of learners and helping kids see connections and value in science when they start off skeptical. He pioneered the use of class notebooks which are now widespread and helped make our courses more aligned and equitable. He has been tech support and last minute help for every teacher in the department. And he is the kindest, most easy to approach mentor for new teachers or anyone who is struggling. He has given countless hours to PAT and the science olympiad teams as well. We wish him nothing but the best in retirement!" - Robert Morgan

And from Scott:
I started at Wilson in 1992, also my first year in PPS (so 30 years in PPS)
I have taught:
Introduction to Physical Science
Earth & Space Science
System Dynamics & Modeling
Science, Technology, Society & World Issues
Biology
Forensic Science
For retirement:
regenerating like the Borg (June-August)
Trip along the pacific coast (Fall)
Volunteering to help out at Wells (helping the forensics classes)
Working with PAT
Sweden!
Favorite Memories? That's a tough one, and most are better left unrecorded . I suppose the student prank of putting a car on top of the Tomb of the Unknown Trojan (I wonder what we call it now?) The Trojan Horse in the H courtyard.... The giant Peace Symbol... The Garden... Nancy Klinger (and her Chicago Style of dealing with parent phone calls ...and well, everyone, really). The bat that roosted in room 233 (FUN!)
Fun Fact: I was in the same classroom for 25 years.
